History

About us

Our school provides comprehensive instruction in ancient Ayurvedic and Vedic healing practices through online courses. Our online workspace makes distance learning at an affordable rate available for adult learners.

The college was established by Husband and Wife team, Monica B Groover, Ph.D. (Manjulali Dasi), and, Pandit Atul Krishna Das. Both wanted to establish an affordable, online college, based on Samkhya as well as Vedantic principles. The team wanted to make Ayurvedic education affordable by using Open Source Learning Management like Moodle. Other teachers include Dr Aparna Dandekar (threeriversayurveda.com), and, Dr Priyanka Rajan, BAMS, Dr Monika Singhal, MBBS. Guest lectures and yoga therapy lectures may be provided by other highly qualified faculty as well.

Mission

Our mission is to promote alternative, spiritual and holistic wellness education via Ayurveda, an ancient system from India for balancing the mind and body. Ayurveda is a collection of complimentary, holistic and alternative lifestyle practices whose aim is to balance the mind and body through the use of herbs, spices, cooking, meditation, yoga and seasonal cleansing.

Ancient Knowledge, Modern Delivery Our Ayurveda courses are comprehensive yet designed for adult learners and offer flexibility and affordability. Training delivery is experiential and blended. We use online web-conferencing, and open source Learning Management System to create our virtual learning environment

Our team practices Ayurvedic Vegetarian Diet or are Vegan. Most of the students who join our course also conduct community workshops. We offer excellent online training delivery in United States, with a fraction of a price. Community Workshops are free of charge.

When does the course begin?

Ayurveda Counselor- 600 Hours

Ayurveda Counselor

The Ayurveda counselor is divided into six terms of 9-10 weeks each. There are 12 Academic class modules and 142 Lessons equaling 600 Hours. Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of internship and 50 client encounters. Students have the OPTION to complete the internship onsite at Austin, TX (extra fees apply) or choose to do Ayurveda Counselor 100% online.

Description and Scope

The scope of practice for this seminar course is focused on a general well person's constitution, (Prakrti and Vikrti), basic imbalances of doshas and, agni. After the successful completion of this seminar, students will be able to create simple recommendations using dietary, lifestyle, and contemplative practices like meditation, herbs, meditation, recipes, self-care strategies to encourage a lifestyle of balance. The Ayurvedic Counselor will be able to educate the general public regarding basic tenets of Ayurveda and suggest some daily routine or seasonal routine practices. Our Ayurveda Counselor meets the competencies required for professional membership at the Ayurvedic Health Counselor with NAMA. Students can choose to do a portion of the internship in-person to qualify for the NAMA Certification board exam, or, do it 100% online if they do not plan to take this certification exam. The internship status (in person or online) will be reflected in students' transcripts.

Assignments

Grading and Evaluation

All assignments must be completed, with a successful passing grade in order to receive a certificate of AYURVEDA COUNSELOR or AYURVEDA PRACTITIONER, the following requirement must be completed.
Minimum 90% cumulative attendance.

C Grade or 70% marks in all quizzes, assignments, projects, and client encounters

Transfer grades, and, Final Research Project grades are not used in the computation of grade point average but are used in the determination of satisfactory progress and fulfillment of graduation requirements.

How to submit Online Assignments?

Essays, blogs, and discussion assignments - may be posted on our online forums.

Quiz shared with the student in a pdf format may be completed by using any prereader, or handwritten. Then, the quiz can be shared via email, physically posted to our address, faxed, or, scanned and email to us. (See instructions)

• Completed Quizzes and Final Research Project can be faxed to us OR, shared via Google Drive in a PDF or a WORD format. Alternatively, the Final Research Project and Completed Quizzes may be posted to our admin office.

• Client Encounters are only accepted in person, or, via Physical Post, and, will not be accepted via email.

• Online Workbooks (if applicable to the course) are ebooks with some notes section. These may be used to determine your attentiveness during online class. They may also be used in online class, to type in notes, do group assignments, or note your observations or during group discussions. A pdf copy may be emailed to us.

Or, you can print and physically post to us, emailed to us, or the scanned portion of classwork and notes may be emailed to the instructor.

• Online Workbook may also be shared by the instructor from their google drive account with the student’s email address for live collaboration between instructor and student, or for assignments. Example- create an online dosha test form or create a meditation and lifestyle recommendation plan for a mock client with vata imbalance. These should be completed in Google Drive itself. It can also be downloaded, printed and posted to us at at our admin office

Age

Minimum age to join this seminar is 18 years old before the first day of class.

Language and Education

Students must have a high school diploma, some college education and basic English language skills. If there is no college education, additional knowledge or training in any healing modality example yoga, reiki, energy medicine, aromatherapy etc. may suffice. The high school diploma may be a US or International High School English Language Arts with minimum 60% scores.
Alternatively, if you did not have English in your high school, then TOEFL iBT® test taken within 2 years of date of application will suffice. Minimum acceptance TOEFL iBT® scores should be between 17-23 for listening skills, 15-21 for reading and writing skills. Speaking skills may be 10-17. Equipment Requirement

Students must have a laptop or a desktop computer, a webcam, a headset, and, a reliable internet access with internet speeds upto 3.1 Mbps - 6 Mbps to participate in the distant learning online course. This will help the student keep up with class communications and access to research and study resources. In addition, basic Students must have basic computer skills including word processing determined via a computer quiz. Students do not need to buy any software. However, students maybe required to have a free gmail or google account, dropbox account, PDF reading software to download and view Slideshows. Students would need to download Zoom FREE APP if they wish to login to live classes via their smart-phones, or, tablets.

Quarterly Tuition Plan (5% discount): An initial quarterly payment must be received at least 15 days prior to the first scheduled class. Two more equal payments will be withdrawn from credit card on file before the next term or from your bank account . There are no discounts for materials, and, that maybe paid in flexible payment plan every four weeks, or, coordinated with the school.

Monthly Payment Plan: 13 flexible payments payable over 12 months. (The School Materials fee and the first payment of $240 due 15 days before first day of class. Rest may be paid via 11 flexible payment plans of equal payments.). • All initial payments include a $100 application fee. All payments must be received on the first day of the month in order for the student to be allowed to attend class.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY for Counselor and Practitioner Program

1. A student can cancel within 72 hours for a full refund. An administrative fees of $100 will be charged.

3. If a student withdraws or is otherwise terminated, the school or college may retain not more than $100 in administrative fees charged for the entire program. The minimum refund of the remaining tuition and fees will be the pro rata portion of tuition, fees, and other charges that the number of hours remaining in the portion of the course or program.

4. A student may not collect a refund if the student has completed or started 90 percent of the lessons for which the student has been charged on the effective date of withdrawal or termination. (Applicable to Counselor and Practitioner Program, not to Yoga programs. Yoga program fees is not refundable after 2 months of enrollment.)

4. Refunds for items of extra expense to the student, such as books, tools, or other supplies are handled separately from refund of tuition and other academic fees.

5. A student who withdraws for a reason unrelated to the student’s academic status after the 60 percent completion mark and requests a grade at the time of withdrawal shall be given a grade of “incomplete” and permitted to re-enroll in the course or program during the 12-month period, for a fees of $100. After the 12 month period, the student's re enrollment in the program is at the full discretion of the college.

1. NON PAYMENT OF FEES

If student has not paid installments on time, it may result in automatic suspension, and/or limited course access by our online learning management system (LMS).

Students can request a grace period for upto 1 weeks for delaying flexible payment plan by writing an email to admissions office. The grace period MUST be approved by the admissions.

Any student who is a no show for more than two weeks online, or, on the classes, and, has not paid is considered to have forfeited their admissions and forfeited the course.

2. REFUND POLICY:

For flexible payment plans, workshops, and, webinars there are no refunds. Please check carefully before you pay. One month notice is required before opting out of the course. If a student requires a transcript or record of classes attended, they must have paid their dues and 1 month notice.

For students who have paid all their dues in advance, refunds are available upto 3 business days, as long as the material has not been shared online, or, shipped, and/or the student has not been given access to online resources. All distant learning materials are non returnable.

If there is an act of God, or a medical emergency, a life or a death situation, a pro rated refund may be given at the discretion of the college for $24 per session attended online and $100 for each day of onsite class attendance, and, $150 for Level 1 Materials, $350 for Level 2 Materials.

3. Restart Policy:

All students who are not able to complete their course on
time, must re enroll if they wish to start the classes.

Students of certain course programs may put their enrollment on 'hold' or 'freeze' temporarily for medical or emergency reasons. However, this must be approved by the college. (They may restart with the next group provided there is a course and a new group starting)

There may be a penalty fees from $50-$300 depending on the course, if the students needs to re enroll again. The re-enrollment is dependent on the college, and, if there is space in the new group. If the fees of the course has increased in the new enrollment group or new year when restarting-then student must pay the balance.

Please note that re-starting the classes is at at the discretion of the college.

We will also hold your credit card information on file. Failure to pay will automatically result in suspension from enrollment, till all dues are paid.

Compared to other Ayurveda Colleges, our course fees is fraction of the price. Course fees start from $500 onwards.

4. SDCOA has the right to refuse admissions to any student unenrolling, or reenrolling in a new course, or, the next level.

5. Any kind of unwanted behaviors via email, phone, web, or bullying against other students, or, teachers, or the school itself will be grounds for suspension.

6. In order to get transcripts, an entire course unit must be completed, and, all payments must be paid.

AYURVEDA COUNSELOR FAQ

Do you offer any internships?

Yes, we offer internships both via in-person and online track.

Students have to CHOOSE the option of the ONLINE track or HYBRID track. The online track is discounted and can be done completely online without leaving your home. The hybrid track requires 30% or 180 hours in person. (If you can't travel, you can also choose an externship option-talk to us directly about that)

ONLINE TRACK

Online track students complete their internship via video conferencing. The student logs in and observes during a presentation of a client encounter, or, a live appointment via zoom or Microsoft Teams with a client. Students may also observe other students/teachers conduct these appointments, or discuss paperwork. There are a total of 6 terms. Each term has different requirements for what the online student is required to do.

HYBRID TRACK

For students who choose to do hybrid track-they attend online classes and also attend in-person internships in Austin Tx. Students must RSVP and let us know in advance they are coming so we can hire an appropriate location.

Hybrid track students attend online classes, and, then travel to Austin on the scheduled internship dates. This track costs extra compared to the online track. The internship dates usually are from 9 am to 6 pm each day.

Students are informed of the internship location and time beforehand so they can book a hotel etc.

Do I need to be vaccinated to attend the in-person internship?

Students are required either to be vaccinated or provide a covid test within 3 days of internship.

Total Fees for monthly payment for the ONLINE track is $3910.
Full payment in an advance discount for ONLINE Track is $3553

Can the students choose which classes to attend

Classes are FIXED either on Saturday OR on Sunday and some weekdays. Students cannot pick and choose. Each term has different sessions.

Thursday evening 7 pm- 8.30 PM
Sunday mornings 8 am- 12-noon app.

Term 2 Sessions
Saturday mornings. 8 am - 12 noon
2 day Term 3 may only have Saturday mornings. Please check the calendar. (Begins from November)

Is your distance education on rolling admission (begin anytime)?

No its not. Classes for professional Ayurveda programs start three times a year.

Can I transfer credits into the program?

Yes, you can transfer credits up to 100 hours into the program. You must show proof of prior education and training in order to request a credit transfer. This reduces a student's class/homework time and gives them a cost-benefit as well.

Can I still attend the classes for the course I got credit for?
Technically by transferring credits, a student has opted out of the course and not signed for it. A student cannot attend classes for a course they did not sign up, or, paid for. Once a credit is transferred, a student cannot attend classes in that unit of the course and will not be given access to Canvas materials.

Attendance Policy

What is Cumulative Attendance for ONLINE course?

Ayurveda Counselor ONLINE track attendance is not calculated in a traditional format. The class hours are completed

1. Attending live classes via zoom in real-time. The teacher(s) mark the attendance, or, it is marked with our system.
2. Watching recorded classes in your own time. The system automatically marks it as complete via Video tracking.

2. Reading in your own time on our Learning management system and any reading or activity done on the learning management system marks it automatically completed
2. Reading your course material and books and marking it on the workspace. This is marked complete by the system.
3. Discussions on the forums with your peers. Attendance is automatically marked by the system.
5 Finishing assignments, and, quizzes. Marked complete by the system, or, the teacher.
6. Attending the onsite internship in Austin, Texas. Or, watch it online.
7. Internship attendance is counted by the number of client encounters observations (recorded by school) and a number of client encounters and the time spent (by the students).

2) What if I am not able to attend a live online class? Is there a makeup class

We have two types of makeup classes. A regular makeup class is when you miss a live session. When you are not able to attend, you can watch the class recording, and, then email or call us with your questions. For some topics, you may be asked to finish a written assignment to prove that you have understood.

Please note that not all classes are recorded. Class quizzes are given at end of the quarter, or, client encounters may not be recorded. In that case, you may have to take the quiz at another time or schedule an offline time to present your client encounter.

3) What is a remedial makeup class?

Remedial makeup class is especially meant for students who are not passing the course, or, are not demonstrating satisfactory progress, Or, late by more than 30 days in the submission of assignments may be asked to do remedial work. Or, If a student requires extra tutoring or makeup classes in different subjects these may be given at $10 per hour.

4) Can I repeat a course?
A student who is enrolled and needs to repeat one-course module only, due to attendance purposes, or, because they are failing a class may do so for a flat fee of $100 for administration charges.

5) Can I get some extra tutoring?

Or, If a student requires extra tutoring or makeup classes in different subjects these may be given at $10 per hour.

Ayurveda Counselor Internship

Ayurveda Counselor Internship

INTERNSHIP requirement (AC107) may be completed online, or, in-person in Austin, TX*. Please note that the in-person internship may cost extra and students are required to make their own travel and hotel arrangements during the internship weekends.

Online Internship costs less. We offer a discounted cost for online Ayurveda counselor.

Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours and 50 client encounters during internship done via client encounter observation, and participation.

Students can complete the lab and internship requirements in person by choosing the hybrid option. Or, students can choose to do internships completely online, via live or recorded broadcast appointments, or, any appropriate security software being used by the school.

One part of the Internship may include some lectures like ethics, the scope of practice, labs, demonstration of biofeedback , or creating paperwork, or materials for clients. It may also include arranging and actively participating in appointments with clients. The internship may also include in-person or virtual appointments, and post discussions, paperwork, and planning. If this is done in person, it will be “recorded” for viewing later for online students.

Term 1-3: During terms 1 thru 3, the student observes the teacher, or, an advanced Practitioner student with a client in person* during internship* in person, OR, online via video. Students get a chance to ask questions post-interview. .*

Term 3-6: At the end of term 3, students are ready to start seeing clients more actively and independently instead of just watching and observing. Student/client one-on-one may be done in person during an onsite internship with a teacher or Practitioner student helping out with paperwork and creation of client protocols or herbs. Online students may do this one-to-one client encounter asynchronously with the student's family, community, friends, or other students within the group.

Up to 25 client encounters must be devoted to the client one to one. Online Student is required to note client interview time in each report sent. Feedback on client encounters is given to the student in person for those attending in person. Online students are given feedback via video, or, online meeting software. Please note that students who will NOT be attending in person for active client participation may have to arrange their own clients.

*Do note that if you are planning to take the NAMA Certification Board exam, they may need you to do client observations in person. Please check with NAMA website directly. The transcript will reflect if the internship was done online or in person. If the student is planning to attend in person in Austin, they must bear the cost of airfare, travel and hotel.

NOTE

National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA), a self-regulating membership organization has set guidelines for students who will begin their professional Ayurveda Counselor training post-January 1st, 2022 that state that an Ayurveda Counselor who plans to take the certification exam or apply for professional NAMA membership must include hands-on training, OR in-person internship.

Without this component, the student may not qualify to take the NAMA Certification Board exam or apply for membership. NAMA certification board may not allow online-only Ayurveda counselor students to take this exam. So, taking the course 100% Online option is suggested for international students or those who do not wish to take this exam or apply for professional membership. Final Research Project

To enhance in-class learning, students are required to complete a final project outside of class related to the theory and practice of Ayurveda related to any of the class units.(AC101 thru AC112) This shall be facilitated by the class instructors. The project can take the form of workshops arranged by the school for the community, visiting Ayurveda shops or spas in your area, or, and/or writing articles for the school blog, and/or, doing research and reporting your findings, and/or conducting free Ayurveda seminars in their own community, etc.

Students will obtain the permission of the faculty before embarking on their projects.

Final research project will include writing a FINAL REPORT or PAPER on your project with an introduction, conclusion and Primary and secondary references.

Ayurveda Practitioner

SCOPE This online program that prepares the student to prepare more comprehensive Ayurvedic diet, lifestyle, spiritual, and Ayurvedic Herbal formula recommendations to remove imbalances and restore health as defined in Vedic and other classical Sanskrit authorities in the Indian tradition.

Practitioners also practice health promotion by preparing custom-fit Ayurvedic dietary and lifestyle programs, detox and rejuvenation plans and herbal formulas for their clients. Compared to Counselor program, this program includes deeper instruction in Sanskrit; Vedic Astrology history, philosophy, and principles of Ayurveda, Ayurvedic pharmacology; herbal formulations for specific imbalances; foundation in Anatomy & Physiology related to Ayurveda, Ayurvedic Nidan & Cikitsa, Client communication; therapeutic modalities; Panchkarma detoxification theory and practice.

The Counselor can suggest ahara (basic diet) according to dosha and Lifestyle coaching. In comparison, the Practitioner can work with someone who has a chronic disorder and work with their acupuncturist, or, naturopath, or massage therapist to create a herbal recommendation, dosha, and coaching plan

Admission Requirements

Education

Students must have the equivalent of an Ayurvedic Counselor 600 Hrs certification from Narayana Ayurveda and Yoga Academy, or, any NAMA reviewed school.

Age

The minimum age to join this program is 18 years old before the first day of class.

Language:

Students must have a high school diploma with basic English language skills. This maybe a US or International High School English Language Arts with minimum 60% scores. Alternatively, if you did not have English in your high school, then TOEFL iBT® test taken within 2 years of date of application will suffice. Minimum acceptance TOEFL iBT® scores should be between 17-23 for listening skills, 15-21 for reading and writing skills. Speaking skills may be 10-17. Equipment Requirement:

As this is an online course, Students must have a laptop or a desktop computer, a webcam, a headset, and, a reliable internet access with internet speeds upto 3.1 Mbps - 6 Mbps to participate in the distant learning online course. This will help the student keep up with class communications and access to research and study resources. Students do not need to buy or download any software. However, students may be required to download a FREE APP if they wish to login to live classes via their smartphones, or, tablets.

Alumni and existing students of Narayana Ayurveda & Yoga Academy applying to this program need not take the computer skills test.

A personal interview will be conducted with each student prior to acceptance as part of our selection criteria.

Ayurveda Internship

Ayurveda Internship/Externship-300 Hours

(NOTE- All internship is taking online during the current situation until further notice.)

Internship options include 100 client encounters* in person in Austin, or via an externship. In addition, there is a community engagement requirement, as well as some theory portion as well as well.

Client encounters must be completed by the last day of the last term. Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 client encounters.
*The student bears the cost of airfare, hotel, and travel to Austin.

Client Observations: Students to observe Practitioners conduct an interview, discuss client records, and view client sessions as an observer of 25 clients and prepare reports based on their observation. Practitioner students may also buddy up with Counselor students and observe and peer review their findings, while they are proctored by the teachers. This is done in real time in person, and/or livestreamed online. If unable to attend, recordings are available. **

Internship in Austin: The second format requires active participation where students observe clients in person during an interview, may now conduct pariksas, and, interviews under the direct observation of their teachers. Students now fill out intake forms, and, may suggest lifestyle and herb interventions under the direct supervision of a Practitioner or a teacher. The internship happens in separate weekends in Austin. If you are planning to take the NAMA Certification board exam, NAMA may require you to attend this in person. If you are unable to travel, we also allow an externship option for students outside the USA.

Externship option for international students who cannot attend internship in United States may be available. The school may contact Practitioners and help arrange externship for international students only; however, the externship schedule and timing must be coordinated directly between the Practitioner and student.

Community Engagement As part of the internship, the Practitioner students are required to complete 50 hours in community engagement as part of AP 110 with any of the listed activities. The students can teach Ayurveda to the public, do activities for their local community, use Ayurveda to support and help others. The project can take the form of educating the public about Ayurveda, teaching some foundation Ayurveda classes as a teaching assistant underclass instructors, doing free seminars, talks arranged by the school for the community, visiting schools, yoga studios, conducting Ayurveda engagement activities for the youth, running an online Ayurveda book club and/or writing articles for the school blog. Students will obtain the permission of the faculty before embarking on their projects. The final research project will include writing a FINAL REPORT on how they used Ayurveda for community engagement.

AP110: Ayurveda Internship 300 Hours/16 Lessons
Pre-requisites: Admission into the course

Synopsis: Ayurveda internship is designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for Ayurvedic clinical practice. Student interns will actively participate in client care while under the supervision of an ayurvedic practitioner in an office setting. Students will also engage in various other educational experiences, observe 50 client encounters, and in addition conduct 50 client encounters and submit written reports. Part of this internship takes place in person in Austin, Texas. For those who cannot complete the internship, an externship option is available.

All online quizzes, reading, final project, watching archived class recordings, and, assignments are done offline at a student's owns time. Classwork may be given like class-workbooks may happen during class times.

When can a student sign up? Student must apply at least 15 working days before the first day of class, or, as early as 2 months before the class begins. When admissions open, it is listed on the website.

CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS EDUCATION, TRAINING, OR EXPERIENCE

A student may be given a credit for previous Ayurveda related education from a NAMA registered institute, for up to a maximum of 200 Hrs at the discretion of the school in the Ayurveda Practitioner seminar.

Cost of Ayurveda Practitioner:

Tuition & Fees

• Full tuition is $4086 and may be paid in monthly installments (AT NO MONTHLY INTEREST).

*Three weekend internship weekends for $240 each. For those who are planning to do an externship, this payment will NOT apply.

Full Tuition Upfront (10% Discount of $409 with full tuition payment.): There is a discount of 10% if full tuition is paid in full before the beginning of the course. All payments must be received on the first day of the month in order for the student to be allowed to attend class.

Monthly Payment Plan: An initial payment of $100 application fees, $300 for E-materials and $272.4 first installment must be received at least 5 days prior to the first scheduled class. The rest of the tuition is payable in 14 equal installments of $272.4 each. In addition, three installments of $234 for internship are due separately payable every in three installments. All payments must be received on the first day of the month for the student to be allowed to attend class. The credit card must be on file for flexible payments

Synopsis

The student will be able to list the three doshas, location of sub doshas, their function, and their importance. The student shall understand Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas-functional and structural differences and will be able to use this to fill a dosha assessment form. for different populations

Lesson Outline:

Lesson 1 Introduction to Doshas, Dhatus, Malas and Srotas

Students can list the 3 Doshas, the 15 sub doshas, their mahabhutas, their sthanams and list the mahabhutas that balance them.
Students are able to list the 7 dhatus
Students are able to define and list the importance of the three malas.
Students are ablet to list the srotas. Focus on Annavaha Srotas, and, Artavavaha srotas.

Step 2- A phone interview This is a simple informal chat over the phone with the director. For yoga and self healing courses, we send you an invoice, and you are all set to begin your course or program. However, if you have applied for a Professional Ayurveda Counselor or Ayurveda Practitioner program, there are a few more formalities as per state policies.

Step 3- Submit Proof of Education Student submits copies of their high school certificate/or equivalent certificate. Alternatively, any college credit or post-secondary certificate may be submitted.

Step 4-Enrollment Agreement and Application Fees Sign the Student enrollment form, and, acknowledge receipt of catalog. Student is required to pay their application fees by this time. Student receives the student enrollment form. Student also receives a document where they acknowledge -that they have read all our enrollment policies, and, received the catalog.
